Our Campers

Camp New Light is an action-packed 6-day residential camp for kids open to adventure, making new friends, while learning more about their disease. Activities include arts & crafts, nature adventures, archery, games, horseback riding, swimming, and a lot more. The camp registration fee includes food, room and board for the entire week, a special camp t-shirt, all activities, and a custom camp water bottle.

2025 REGISTRATION FEE

$150.00 for the entire week (no fee is required to begin the registration process)

*Not all days are the same, we aim to provide a unique camp experience. 
  • WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO APPLYING?
    Step 1: Complete the application. We will communicate with you through the email address that you provide. Please make sure to give complete information about your references. Step 2: Once your application has been reviewed, we will be in touch to schedule an interview. We can do in person or Zoom. Step 3: We will reach out to your references by phone to complete a form. Step 4: The Assistant Camp Director will contact you with a final decision and further steps.
  • IS TRAINING PROVIDED?
    YES, training will be provided and MUST be completed by all camp counselors before attending camp.
  • DO I GET PAID?
    NO, camp counselors are strictly volunteers who may receive a stipend to cover traveling and other basic needs.
  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • CAN I VOLUNTEER AS A COUNSELOR FOR A FEW DAYS?
    NO, being a camp counselor is a week-long commitment.
  • DO I GET TO GO HOME EACH DAY?
    NO, Camp New Hope is a week-long residential camp. Camp counselors report to the campsite a day before the campers for team-building, and some relaxation before the campers get to the campsite.
  • DO I HAVE TO HAVE SICKLE CELL TO BE A CAMP COUNSELORS?
    NO, Camp New Hope is open to counselors and volunteers living with sickle disease, traits, and to those who do not.
  • WHAT WILL I NEED TO TAKE TO CAMP?
    A packing list will be provided after you have been selected to be a camp counselor.
  • WILL I HAVE TO LEAD ACTIVITIES?
    NO, only counselors who choose to lead activities will do so. It is NOT mandatory.
  • HOW MANY CAMPERS WILL I BE ASSIGNED?
    While you will be in a cabin with 10-12 campers, and 3-4 counselors, Camp New Hope uses a 3;1 ratio with our middle school campers and a 4:1 ratio with high schoolers. So you will be assigned to 3 or 4 campers for the week.
  • IS BEING A CAMP COUNSELOR THE ONLY WAY I CAN VOLUNTEER?
    NO, volunteers are needed for check-in, returns, and facilitating activities.
